CEBU CITY — Employees at Cebu City Hall were briefly evacuated Monday afternoon after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake originating from Eastern Samar shook parts of the Visayas, authorities said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported the tremor struck at 2:09 p.m. and was felt in several areas, including Cebu City. Personnel evacuated to designated open areas in an orderly manner following standard earthquake response protocols.
No injuries or significant damage were reported at City Hall as of Monday afternoon.
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office remained on alert for possible aftershocks and said it was coordinating with relevant agencies to monitor the situation.
City officials urged employees and the public to stay calm, remain vigilant, and follow earthquake safety protocols in the event of aftershocks.
